Anti-Infective Enrolling
Study to evaluate two antibiotic treatment approaches for the management of outpatient pulmonary exacerbations in children 3 to 18 years old. (STOP PEDS 2.0 RCT Main Cohort )
The STOP Peds study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of two antibiotic treatment approaches for pulmonary exacerbations in children with CF.
This study consists of two treatment arms. Those in the immediate antibiotics treatment arm will be prescribed 14 days of oral antibiotics. Those in the tailored therapy treatment arm will only begin antibiotics if they meet certain criteria such as their symptoms worsen or they do not improve over time.
Participants in both treatment arms will be instructed to increase airway clearance. Participants will be randomized to a specific treatment arm, which means neither the doctor nor the participant will choose which arm. Participants will be selected at random, like the flip of a coin. Researchers will track lung function and antibiotic use to learn if one of these approaches is better than the other.
This study may require pulmonary functions testing, lung clearance index, and/or other measurements.
